Teaching Staff

Role:

The Learning Support Teacher will implement and provide SEN students with educational support under the supervision of the Head of Learning Support. As a Learning Support Teacher, you will be providing individual or small group support to students with learning differences and collaborate closely with teachers, modeling inclusive practices and effective research-based strategies ensuring all students have the opportunity to thrive both academically and personally.

About Akademeia:

Akademeia High School is an academically-selective school in Warsaw, offering IGCSEs and A Levels alongside Akademeia Assessed Courses. The majority of our students are preparing to study at Oxbridge, Russell group, and Ivy League universities as well as acclaimed architecture, art and music schools. With a rigorous admissions process and A Level classes taught in the form of undergraduate seminars, the school pursues a pre-university university model. The school offers a robust scholarship programme, with 10% of places allocated to merit-based, partial and full scholarships. Together with Akademeia High School Foundation, the school also supports several educational outreach and community engagement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support to students with learning difficulties or special educational needs (SEN).
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop and implement strategies for accommodating diverse learning needs within the classroom.
  • Conduct assessments to identify students' specific learning needs and develop personalized learning plans.
  • Develop and implement personalized learning plans tailored to each student's individual needs and academic goals, including accommodations for exams and coursework.
  • Collaborate with the exam centre to ensure that students with SEN receive the appropriate access arrangements to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities.
  • Deliver targeted interventions and support sessions focused on building essential academic skills, such as literacy, numeracy, study skills, and exam preparation strategies.
  • Adapt teaching materials and resources to suit the learning styles and abilities of individual students.
  • Monitor and track the academic progress of students with SEN, providing ongoing feedback and adjustments to support strategies as necessary to ensure academic success.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on their child's progress, discuss strategies for support at home, and collaborate on goal-setting.
  • Work closely with other members of the school's support team, including special educational needs coordinator (SENCOs) and the Wellbeing team to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting students with SEN.
  • Keep up-to-date with best practices in the field of special education and attend relevant professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student assessments, progress, and interventions in accordance with school policies and procedures.
  • Advocate for the needs of students with SEN within the school community and participate in meetings or committees related to inclusion and diversity.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued, respected and empowered to achieve their full potential, both academically and personally, regardless of their individual learning needs.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Teaching certification from an accredited institution and minimum two years of experience in the given field.
  • University degree in learning support and/or special education needs
  • Preferred knowledge and experience working in the British curriculum
  • Preferred experience in teaching at a secondary level
  • Fluency in English
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

General responsibilities

  • To provide pastoral care and ensure safety and wellbeing of the Boarders staying at AHS Boarding House while on duty.
  • To work closely with the Head of Boarding House to monitor personal development and any pastoral issues of all Boarders.
  • To spend 7 hours working at the AHS Boarding House between 07.00 and 19.30, Monday-Friday.

Pastoral Care in the Boarding House

  • Unbiased and impartial treatment of all Boarders.
  • Helping to resolve conflicts between Boarders.
  • Educating Boarders in good manners.
  • Educating Boarders in respecting property of the AHS Boarding House and of private property of other Boarders, as well as rational use of the AHS Boarding House facilities.
  • Ensuring that Boarders observe binding health and safety regulations and anti-fire regulations, the AHS Boarding House Rules and Regulations as well as the Hotel o3 Regulations.
  • Ensuring that Boarders adhere to their daily schedules.
  • Keeping timely records as required by any binding law and the AHS Boarding House Rules and Regulations which includes records of Boarders’ arrivals and departures from the AHS Boarding House.
  • Calling medical assistance when required and assisting with the medics’ visits on site (translation Polish-English may be required).
  • Ensuring that Boarders keep common-use areas clean and tidy and enforcing cleaning rules.
  • Conducting periodical room checks and enforcing cleaning rules.
  • Conducting daily fridge checks to ensure that no spoiled food is stored in the fridges.
  • Preparing and enforcing the rota of kitchen duties.
  • Overseeing any food preparation and cooking in the kitchen. Ensuring that Boarders use cooking facilities safely.
  • Organisation of various forms of free time spending in accordance with the Boarders’ needs and AHS Boarding House facility features. This may include integrational activities such as playing board games, movie nights, mindfulness colouring, cooking sessions etc.
  • Ordering supplies (i.e. cleaning supplies, snacks for integrational activities etc.)
  • The supervisors may be asked to accompany Boarders to external appointments such as a doctor’s visit or a visa appointment.

Communication and meetings

  • Liaising with Head of the Boarding House, mentors, teachers and parents as appropriate in matters of both academic and pastoral nature.

  • Participating in any meetings of the AHS Boarding House team.

  • Liaising with o3 Hotel staff regarding matters of housekeeping.

Line Management

  • Boarding House Supervisor is directly responsible to the Head of the Boarding House.
