Last Saturday, I graduated from Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University with my Master of Public Health in Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences. I was also honored to learn that I had been selected as the recipient of the 2024 BSHES Outstanding Capstone Award, an award presented to students whose Capstone projects exemplified BSHES values of working to advance health equity through creative problem-solving. I am beyond grateful for this recognition and would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the incredible Rollins faculty and my peers whose support was instrumental throughout my candidacy.I look forward to embarking on this new journey armed with knowledge, experience, and a profound sense of gratitude for Rollins, and I am excited to continue championing health equity and innovative solutions in the field of public health!

Since I wrapped up my 2nd doctoral course this semester at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, I'm sharing some reflections about the insights I've gained about my leadership style. Throughout this course, I've distilled my philosophy into four guiding principles that are vital to my mission and vision in the realm of public health.🌟 My mission is to infuse creativity into public health, empowering professionals in this field to find and amplify their unique voices. It's about helping them shape their narratives and earn the recognition they deserve, highlighting the indispensable role of public health in our society.🌍 My vision is to see public health interwoven with the arts, fostering innovative solutions that enhance well-being. I envision public health professionals as recognized storytellers and change-makers, contributing to a more dynamic and enriched society.🔍 Reflecting on my own practice, I've realized the importance of leading with integrity, self-awareness, justice, and creativity. These principles have not only shaped my approach but also enabled me to navigate complex situations with empathy and understanding. From being a student liaison during a challenging time to advocating for fair treatment and fostering an environment of creativity and innovation, these experiences have reinforced my belief in these core values. As I continue my doctoral journey, I remain committed to these principles, striving to make a meaningful impact in the world of public health. Let's reimagine and reshape this profession together, one creative, just, and self-aware step at a time. #Leadership #PublicHealth #CreativityInPublicHealth #DoctoralJourney #Reflections #BeignetsAndDoctorate

The first year medical students in the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine SELECT MD Program wrapped up their three-day introduction to the program today. We also welcomed back the second year students today, kicking off with team building and the Summer Immersion Poster Presentations, showcasing their summer research efforts. Dean Dr. Charles Lockwood was on hand to view their hard work. In addition to the traditional core curriculum, SELECT students are exposed to a unique four-year additional curriculum in emotionally intelligent leadership, values-based patient-centered care, and health systems, as well immersed in scholarly experiences. #emotionalintelligence #physicianleadership #valuesbasedleadership #valuesbasedcare#patientcenteredcare #healthsystems #leadershipdevelopment

And for my next trick... education is so very important to me. Especially from those who're the best in the field. Leisha McKinley-Beach is the G.O.A.T. when it comes to Black Leadership and Public Health. My next educational set is a student in the Black Public Health Academy. At Health Promotion International we strongly support Early Career Researchers and their work. ECRs are innovative thinkers and instrumental in developing and implementing transformative programs and policies that impact the health and wellbeing of our communities. The Mike Daube Early Career Advocacy Series aims to support Early Career Researchers to combine state of the art review articles on a topical public health or health promotion issue, with strong calls for action on research, policy or practice.Reflecting the important public health advocacy work of Emeritus Professor Mike Daube AO (Chair of the Boards of Health Promotion International), we encourage Early Career Researchers to be bold and brave with their recommendations for action in addressing public health and health promotion issues. This includes what ECRs think are new and emerging issues for public health and health promotion. We particularly welcome articles from First Nations and LMIC early career scholars.Learn more: https://bit.ly/3QXFYrd

Great lecture at Warwick Medical School on the science of lay responder CPR. My takeaways:👉 80% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in the home - you are much more likely to be applying your CPR skills to a family member or friend than to a stranger.👉 Bystanders performing CPR requires a lot more than training in the techniques - cultural norms, feelings of self-efficacy, and the ability to recognise cardiac arrest all come into play.👉 Aftercare for bystanders who have delivered CPR is important, feelings of "what just happened?" are normal even for those with training.

👋 Meet Evan Anderson, JD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Public Health in the Jefferson College of Population Health.Describe what you do at Jefferson, including any research.📚 I teach health policy and public health law courses to MPH students. My research has broadly explored the role of law as a structural determinant of health. One specific part of that work has focused on drug policy. What's the best part of your job?👨🏫 That’s tough! I find teaching and research to be such a privilege, not to mention often fun and always fulfilling. What’s one piece of advice you give students?💬 Hard to beat Ted Lasso’s advice, "Be curious." What’s something people would be surprised to find out about you?🚲 I love to garden and ride my bike to work (no matter the weather)! Please tell us about any honors you’ve recently received.🏆 I am thrilled to hold the inaugural JoAnne A. Epps Fellowship in Drug Policy and Substance Use Treatment, which will support work aimed at eliminating local policy barriers to a healthier response to substance use.
